Privileges and human rights violation in Mozambique
Programa de Doutoramento: Human Rights in Contemporary Societies
My research aims to study and understand how and why political and social privileges undermine the protection and implementation of human rights in Mozambique. To reach the goal, this proposal questions the social and historical conditions under which human rights are violated in Mozambique. Until now, human rights violations in Mozambique have only been connected to the State institutions but never considered the historical and social interactions through which these violations have been structured. This hypothesis is unfolded through an in-depth analysis of situations and forms wherein multifaceted privileges and structural violence (from African political systems to Portuguese colonial administration, passing by the Marxist-Leninist regime [1975]) have implications in the current situation of human rights.
