Jessemusse Cacinda
Biography
He has a degree in Philosophy from the Pedagogical University - Nampula Delegation, Mozambique, a Master's degree in Sociology from the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo and a postgraduate degree in Project Management from the Higher Institute of Management, Administration and Education in Maputo. He is Co-Founder of Ethale Publishing, one of the most influential publishing houses on the African literary scene, and was its first Director between 2016 and 2022. He was a journalist for Rádio Moçambique, where he won the "Quality Award" in the categories of "Best Chronicle" (2012) and "Best Thematic Report" (2013) and a researcher for SEKELEKANI, a leading investigative journalism organisation in Mozambique, having signed several reports, covering strikes promoted by people affected by the extractive industry in Tete and Cabo Delgado and the first published report on the situation of internally displaced people from terrorism in northern Mozambique. Since 2021 he has been an Assistant Lecturer at the Joaquim Chissano University in Maputo. As a writer, he is the author of the novel "Kwashala Blues", which discusses philosophical problems through the story of a typist who receives the news of his father's death, and has coordinated two anthologies bringing together young Mozambican writers who discuss the country's social problems through literary art. He has also written chapters in academic books and coordinated the book "Mozambique: Emergence, Reconstruction and Resilience" with Adelino Assane, Fidel Terrenciano and Adriano Félix. His research varies between journalism documentaries, philosophical essays and sociological research. At CES/FEUC - University of Coimbra, he is part of the PhD programme in Postcolonialisms and Global Citizenship (2023/2024 edition) with the thesis project: "African Philosophy and Social Cohesion: Dialogue with Amakhuwa Intellectuals in Mozambique and South Africa".
