Joana Proença Becker


Biography

Joana Proença Becker is a psychologist; a psychotherapist; a researcher at the Trauma Observatory (OT) of the Center for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra (UC); Assistant Professor at the MIguel Torga Higher Education Institute (ISMT); and a member of the Certification Committee of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS). Becker is the coordinator of the research team at the "Resource Center for Stress in Military Context" (Ministry of National Defense), as well as the coordinator of the Postgraduate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (ISMT). Becker was also the coordinator of the V Training Course on Piscotraumatology (with access to the European Certificate of Psychotraumatology validated by ESTSS). Becker has a PhD in Clinical Psychology, a master's degree in Social and Cultural Psychiatry and in Clinical Psychology, and she has obtained the Certificate General in Psychotraumatology issued by ESTSS. Becker has given lessons on psychoanalysis and dynamic psychotherapy, workshops on PTSD and crisis and catastrophe situations, and has been a speaker at events in the area of mental health and a reviewer of national and international scientific journals.Her research interest field is the effects of Dynamic Psychotherapy in the treatment of different psychopathologies, the normal and pathological reactions after potentially traumatic events, and the psychological consequences of crises and catastrophes.
