Overview

This PhD programme offers an interdisciplinary analysis of Law in the twenty-first century, through an  integrated perspective combining the rationalities of legal science and those of the remaining social sciences, allowing an understanding of Law as a social phenomenon and as a science.


Objectives

- To promote the interdisciplinary study of the Law in society;

- To analyse the transformation of Law and of justice from a theoretical, dogmatic, critical, and interdisciplinary perspective using the knowledge of the Law, Sociology, Anthropology, History, and Economics;

- To promote the advanced training of justice researchers and professionals and scientific research in the area of Sociology and Law, in the countries having Portuguese as their official language;

- To promote a broader debate between the viewpoints and experiences of the North (Europe) and the South (Latin America, Africa) in the reform of the administration of justice, in the promotion of human rights and of citizenship.
