Synopsis
The book “Rediscovered Visual Documents of the Portuguese Estado da Índia | The Filippe Neri Xavier Collection” is the result of research carried out as part of the project - PORTofCALL - Encounters between Africa, Asia and Europe: Cultural Heritage and Ports of Call in the Indian Ocean during the Early Modern Period, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (Ref. PTDC/ART-DAQ/4357/2021 - DOI: https://doi.org/10.54499/PTDC/ART-DAQ/4357/2021) and aims to showcase a collection of colonial visual sources, the Filippe Nery Xavier Collection, deposited at the British Library in London.

It is essentially a publication of previously unpublished iconographic documents - rediscovered, in fact - about the former Estado da Índia. Images feature prominently in the book, and the text, which is relatively restrained for a scientific publication, aims to initiate debate on these iconographic sources - not to conclude it.
