Workshop
Climate Crisis and Epistemic Justice
March 27, 2025, 17h00
Paços da República dos INKAS (Coimbra)
The Repúblicas of Coimbra, in collaboration with the Ecology and Society Lab working group of the Centre for Social Studies (ECOSOC-CES), are promoting a workshop on Climate Crisis and Epistemic Justice. The proposal aims not only to address the climate transition from a critical perspective, but also to discuss how different forms of knowledge are recognised or marginalised.
The event will feature ECOSOC researchers Jonas Van Vossole, Djamila Andrade and Gustavo Garcia, who will bring fundamental reflections on the environmental and ecological challenges linked to inequalities stemming from the class, colonial and patriarchal structures inherent in capitalism, and how these are reflected in the discourse and production of knowledge. The workshop is part of the reactivation of (Re)esistências em 2025, an intense cultural programme organised by the Repúblicas de Coimbra, which will take place between 17 and 28 March, reviving the tradition that began in the 1990s and has been interrupted since 2012.
The session will take place in the Paços da República dos INKAS (Rua da Matemática, nº 2, RC) and will be a space for debate and the collective construction of knowledge. Aimed essentially at the student public of Coimbra, this workshop reflects the commitment of ECOSOC and the Republics of Coimbra to strengthen initiatives of resistance and critical thinking, reinforcing the role of university spaces in critical learning and social transformation.
