Biography

PhD candidate in the Program Post-colonialisms and Global Citizenship, directed by CES (University of Coimbra). Master student in Medical Anthropology at the Faculty of Science and Technology, also of UC. Graduated in Social Sciences from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (2005), with post-graduate studies in Anthropology "Multiculturalism and Identities" (ISCTE - Lisbon University Institute, Portugal, 2006), and a MA holder in Cultural Anthropology from the same institution (2008). Since 2002, conducts research on psychiatry and therapeutic practices. Performed a research project on "The Anti-Asylum and Psychiatric Reform in Brazil" as a researcher / junior scholar at PUC-SP. Since 2006, conducts research on Transcultural Psychiatry in Portugal, focusing the relationship between health and immigration from the perspective of Critical Medical Anthropology. For this project, was Fellow of the High Commissioner for Immigration and Intercultural Dialogue (ACIDI/Portugal) and the Centre for Studies in Social Anthropology (CEAS-ISCTE). Since 2008 develops investigations into the healing practices in afro-Brazilian religions in Brazil-Portugal route, with special attention to Umbanda, its rituals variations, its transnationalization processes, and religious performances.
