Interprofessional Collaboration in Primary Health Care: A comparative study between Brazil and Portugal

Health teams produce and coordinate care processes through a work which come from the contact between organizations, teams, professionals and patients. The general purpose of this study it was to understand the dynamics of interprofessional collaboration in the context of the Family Health Strategy (Brazil) and the Family Health Units (Portugal). Interprofessional Collaboration (IC) involves relational, organizational and strategic aspects that make up the team work and the clinical governance in daily services. Objectives: Objectives: a) identify the factors that influence the development of IC; B) understand the conceptions of IC sustained by health professionals, in the context of Primary Health Care; C) assessing the level of IC in the health care teams, in both countries; and d) develop a process of construction and validation of a CI assessment instrument. Methods: develops a comparative study of cases, considering health policies and services in both countries and using an evaluation model of IC. For the collection of data, it was used documentary research, semi-structured interviews, direct observation and a survey in digital format, sent by e-mail. Results: it is observed that: a) the efforts for democratic co-management team contribute to the effectiveness of the quality of care; b) a disagreement of the higher management bodies (administrative) to the daily work of the teams, their struggles, dilemmas and practical challenges; c) striking differences in the governance of clinical and collaborative work between the two cases, including for example, the inclusion of new professional categories with the family health teams (in Brazil) and the voluntary institutional incentives for productivity (in Portugal) . Overall, we found that the clinical governance in health is a key strategy for the organization and the effectiveness of care in Primary Health Care.
